George Martin McWilliams, a longtime resident of Reading, formerly of Medford, passed away at the Edith Nourse Rogers VA Medical Center in Bedford on April 5, 2021. He was 74 years of age.
George was born in Medford, Massachusetts, on June 18, 1946, the son of the late George and Jean (Panetta) McWilliams. George proudly served his country, serving four years in the United States Coast Guard. George was a graduate of Northeastern University and was a longtime employee for NStar, from which he retired. Upon his retirement, he worked as a substitute teacher. George was a longtime member of Bear Hill Golf Club in Stoneham.
George was beloved husband of 52 years to Betty Ann (O’Brien) McWilliams. Devoted father of Michelle Pavao and her husband Stephen and Lisa Tango and her husband Dom. Loving grandfather of five beautiful grandchildren that were the light of his life; Nick, Jess and Ella Tango, Liv and Joe Pavao. Cherished brother of Jeannette McWilliams and her spouse Linda Ralph, Dennis McWilliams, Tim McWilliams, and Susan Fountain.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021, at St. Athanasius Church 300 Haverhill St., Reading, at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Mask must be worn, and safe distancing observed. Burial is private, and there are no visiting hours.
