Obituary: Marie A. (Megna) Piraino

November 25, 1937 ~ January 2, 2021

Piraino, Marie A. (Megna). Beloved mother and wife passed away peacefully on January 2nd at home, surrounded by her loving family after a lengthy illness at the age of 83.

Born in East Boston, MA, on 25 November 1937 to the late Ferdinando and Immaculata (Melillo) Megna. Marie graduated from St. Rose High School in 1955 and married her husband, Paul Piraino, in 1959.  They eventually settled in Reading, where they raised their family and resided for almost 50 years.

Marie was a beautiful woman inside and out. She brought great joy to all who knew her and was a loving and devoted wife, mother, friend, sister, and sister in law. She was smart, funny, and beautiful, but more than anything, she was infinitely kind and generous.  Her family meant the world to her, and her favorite times were spent with her children and grandchildren, who absolutely adored her.  She was a phenomenal cook, an avid reader, loved to entertain family and friends, and also loved to travel.

Beside her husband Paul of 62 years, she is survived by her 3 adoring children; Paul Piraino Jr and his wife Maria of Newburyport, Lisa Bueno and her husband Rogerio of Chelmsford and Lori Bonsignore and her husband Frank of Andover as well as her four grandchildren; Nicholas, his wife Amanda, Frankie, Ariana, and Nathan.  She is predeceased by her brother, Frank, with whom she had an unbreakable bond, and her baby sister Angela. She was also survived by her sister in law and dear friend Grace Ganat, her brother in law Tony Piraino, and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her sisters in law Marge Muir, Muriel Piraino, and brother in law Frank Ganat. She is survived by many lifelong friends that she deeply cherished. She will never be forgotten and will be missed forever by all who loved her.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation with the family in the funeral home on Wednesday, Jan 6th from 4-7 pm. Due to current restrictions, limited capacity must be followed, masks must be worn as well as social distancing. Staff will be on hand for assistance. Funeral Mass in St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill St., Reading on Thursday, Jan. 7th at 12noon. Please go directly to the church. Interment will be held privately in Woodend Cemetery, Reading.
