Audrey Lois (Perry) Errico, age 92, of Reading, formerly of Woburn and a longtime resident of Winchester, passed away on December 24, 2020. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph R. Errico. Born in Newton, MA, Audrey was the daughter of the late Lewis E. and Marguerite B. (McNally) Perry. She was raised and educated in Waltham and Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School in 1946. After high school, Audrey attended Copley Secretarial School in Boston. She worked at several places, most notably at the Eastern Company in Cambridge, where she met her husband Joe.
They married in 1956 and lived in Wilmington and then Winchester, Joe’s hometown. While living in Winchester, Audrey was employed by the Winchester Public Schools as a secretary for the Chapter 1 program, and for the Winchester High School Athletic Department, from which she retired.
After retirement, she and Joe spent time at their beloved beach house in Corolla on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. They made many a road trip from MA to NC, often bringing friends and relatives with them to enjoy Errico’s Retreat.
Audrey’s natural curiosity made her a continuous learner, and she had a keen interest in people, places, and experiences of all types. She made friends easily due to her bright and optimistic attitude and her ability to see the very best in people and circumstances. She never missed an opportunity to say a kind word or give a compliment to anyone she encountered.
Audrey’s adventuresome spirit led her on many trips both with her husband and with other family members. Even into her 80s, she continued her lifelong exploration of her native New England and also made trips through Italy, to Colorado Springs, New York, the mountains of North Carolina, and historic areas of Georgia and Florida.
She was an avid reader and she rarely went anywhere without her latest book. She became an honorary member of her daughter’s book club in Virginia and joined their discussions and made book recommendations on several occasions.
In addition to her love for travel and reading, Audrey enjoyed music, theater, and the arts. She attended local and regional concerts, theater, opera, museums, and botanical gardens and even attended a concert in Carnegie Hall. She loved sports and was an avid tennis player and could often be found playing on the Packer-Ellis Tennis Courts in Winchester and at the Winchester Tennis Club. A devout fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox, she was delighted when the Fenway fans sang happy birthday to Audrey on opening day as she attended the game with her daughters for her 88th birthday.
Audrey is lovingly survived by her children: Nancy E. Errico (Thomas Procopio) of Reading, Phyllis A. Errico of VA, and Alan J. Errico (Lloyd Perret) of FL. She is also survived by many dear relatives and by friends she has made over the years from places near and far.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather to visit briefly with the family in the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St. Winchester, on Saturday, January 9, from 10-11AM, and are reminded to wear masks, practice social distancing and enter through the front door.
