Allan R. Sletterink, 87, of Reading, passed away Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020, after a brief illness, with his family by his side.
Born on April 1, 1933, to the late Henry (Hendrikus) Sletterink and Georgia (Skaats) Sletterink of Malden, he moved to Reading when he was 8 years old. He was a Reading High School graduate, Class of 1951. Allan is predeceased by his brothers Robert and Donald.
Beloved husband to the late Marjorie (Hovey) with whom he celebrated 57 years of marriage. He was the cherished father to Glenn and his wife Lisa of Wakefield, Carol Sandberg and her husband Brian, and Roy and his wife Patricia all of Reading, he was a special Boompa and Grandpa to Tim, Greg, Katelyn, Zachary, Bradley, Riley, Joel, Adam, and Dan, all who were his pride and joy. He also leaves behind several dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A proud Korean War Veteran, he enlisted in the US Navy in 1953 and served as a radar operator for Patrol Squadron VP46. He was stationed in the Philippines.
Prior to retirement, Allan worked as a foreman at the Atlantic Gelatin/Kraft General Foods plant in Woburn for 23 years. His passions included woodworking, fishing, working in the yard, and vacationing with his wife in New Hampshire and on Cape Cod. He will certainly be remembered for his sense of humor and his generosity. Allan leaves behind many cherished memories and will be missed dearly by his loved ones.
Funeral services and burial are private and there are no visiting hours.
