At the end of Thursday’s School Committee meeting, Superintendent of Schools John Doherty read a statement announcing that he would be taking a leave of absence. In an email on Friday, June 28 Doherty informed Reading Public Schools Staff about the leave of absence, and that it would be effective at the end of the day. Doherty offered no explanation for the leave of absence, only citing “family and personal responsibilities.”

Doherty mentioned no timetable for his return.
