Alex Mandrus collects three strikeouts in relief

The Bulldogs took on the Andre Chiefs for the first time this season on Wednesday night at Maplewood. Despite a tough fight, the Bulldogs dropped the game by the score of 4-1, bringing their record to 2-2 on the season.

The Bulldogs struck first in the third inning. Four Bulldogs reached base, three on walks as well as a base hit by Tyler Cedeno. Darren Hartwell scored the first run of the game on a fielding error by the Chiefs to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs added to their lead in the fourth inning when Tyler Cedeno signaled home, Luke Hall, to increase the Bulldogs lead to 2-0.

Cam Lanzilli goes four strong innings in first Bulldogs start

The Chiefs only needed one inning to tie the Bulldogs and ultimately take the lead. In the bottom of the fifth, they collected five hits, including an inside the park home run by Tony Serino and an RBI single from Shane Stande, to give the Chiefs the 4-2 lead.

Despite strong pitching throughout the whole game, The Bulldogs would go on to lose by that score. Cam Lanzilli made his first start for the Bulldogs and pitched 4.1 strong innings, striking out three. Alex Mandrus pitched 1.2 innings in relief also striking out three. The Bulldogs were outdueled by Chiefs starter, Jared Freni who pitched a complete game, striking out 11. The Bulldogs saw a strong offense performance by Tyler Cedeno, who went 3-4 with an RBI.

The Bulldogs look to rebound and get back over the .500 mark on Sunday when they face the Somerville Royals at Endicott College.
