To the Editor:
I’m proud to be the volunteer manager for Anne Landry’s campaign for the Select Board because she has the experience, skills, values, and commitment we need.
Anne is unique among the candidates in that she is committed to a career of public service. She has over a decade of experience as a public servant in volunteer and professional roles. In town, she has served on the Finance Committee and in Town Meeting. Professionally, she works in the State Legislature as the legal counsel for Senator Brownsberger.
Anne has a track record as a successful negotiator who can achieve compromise among a wide range of people and interests, including members of both political parties. For example, she played a major role in negotiating the state’s criminal justice reform bill that was passed into law last year. Her success in negotiation demonstrates that she listens carefully, works to understand all perspectives, and then thoughtfully responds to everyone and every point of view. We need these skills on our Select Board and in Town Government.
Her commitment to the democratic values of openness and inclusion, as well as to fairness, are evident in her involvement with Reading Embraces Diversity and in her work supporting the resettlement of a refugee family in Reading. Her personal integrity and ethics are evident in everything she does.
Anne is deeply committed to making Reading a great place for everyone to live and for parents to raise their children, as she is doing. The work she has already done toward this goal is impressive and I’m certain that it will pale in comparison to what she will do as a member of our Select Board. For example, she has great innovative ideas for obtaining new revenue and controlling costs that will help Reading efficiently manage its resources.
Anne will be a fantastic Select Board member. I strongly urge you to vote for Anne Landry for Select Board on April 2nd!
