Richard J. “Dick” Crosby, 95, a longtime resident of Reading, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 6, 2026, surrounded by his children. He was the devoted husband of the late Marilyn Rita (Spear) Crosby for 65 years, until her passing in 2025.

Born and raised in Newtonville, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Martin Joseph Crosby and Mae (Young) Crosby.

Dick was a graduate of Newton High School and Newton Junior College. He loved sports and was introduced to the game of golf by his lifelong friend, Paul Kelly, while they worked together at the Albemarle Golf Course in Newtonville. His success as a young golfer led to his first career as an Assistant Golf Professional at the Hyannisport Club. He later enjoyed a successful career in textile sales, which led to the creation of Crosby Wool, Inc. in 1990.

Most who knew Dick will remember his passion for the game of golf and his many accomplishments on the course. He was the 1947 New England Hearst Champion, the 1958 Club Champion at Woodland Country Club, the 1986 Massachusetts Senior Amateur Champion, a nine-time Club Champion at Meadow Brook Golf Club, a 13-time Senior Champion at Meadow Brook, and a five-time Parent-Child Champion.

In his later years, he enjoyed spending winters in Naples, Florida, and playing golf at The Strand Country Club, where he was one of the original members.

Dick is survived by his three children, Karen DiCenzo of Andover, Gail Donovan and her husband, Brian, of Reading, and Richard Crosby, Jr. of Reading. He was the grandfather of Danielle Tubinis and her husband, Luke; Chad DiCenzo and his fiancée, Avery Mitchell; Kate Donovan; Sean Donovan; the late Brendan Donovan; Emily Crosby; and Ryan Crosby. He was the great-grandfather of Lorenzo Richard Tubinis and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Marilyn, and grandson, Brendan, Dick was predeceased by his two sisters, Nancy Bingham and Teresa Zackrison.

The family would like to thank the outstanding and caring staff at Windsor Place Assisted Living, where Dick resided for the past two years. Special thanks are also extended to Compassionate Care Hospice and Humble Home Care for their kindness and support.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill St., Reading, on Thursday, June 18, at 10:30 a.m., followed by interment at Forest Glen Cemetery in Reading.
