Obituary: Faith M. (Scorzello) Downing, 78

October 21, 1947 – March 11, 2026

Faith M. (Scorzello) Downing of Reading, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, March 11th, 2026, with her loving daughters and son-in-law by her side in the comfort of her home at the age of 78.

Born on October 21, 1947, in Boston, Faith was the beloved daughter of the late Michael Scorzello and Mary (Consolo) Scorzello. She was raised in Watertown and later resided in Waltham for many years before making her home in Reading more than 25 years ago.

A graduate of Watertown High School, Faith built a career as a dedicated and dependable bookkeeper. She was employed for many years with Larchmont Engineering and The Caruso Companies, where her attention to detail and strong work ethic were greatly valued.

Faith was a natural caretaker whose life was defined by her devotion to others. Her family was always at the center of her world, and she gave generously of her time, compassion, guidance, and cooking. Faith’s door was always open, with a guarantee of a homemade meal, a fresh pot of coffee, and unlimited support. In addition to caring for those closest to her, Faith was actively involved with the Wakefield Adult Mentors Program, where she made a meaningful impact in the life of her mentee, Giovanni Cherisme, whom she cherished greatly.

She was the beloved wife of the late John J. Downing, who passed away in 2012, and the dear sister of Mary Leonard, who passed away just a week prior to Faith.

Faith is survived by: her devoted and loving daughters, Tiffany Downing of Somerville and Kristie Cotter and her husband George of London, England; her niece Lisa Landa of Watertown, Phil Landa, and their daughter Sophie Landa of Pittsfield; her nephew and his wife Michael and Heidi Leonard of Salem, their children Nate and Hannah; as well as many dear cousins, neighbors and friends.

Faith will be remembered for her warm heart, selfless spirit, and the quiet strength with which she cared for everyone around her. Her legacy of compassion and dedication to family and community will live on in all who had the privilege to know her.

Family & Friends are welcome to gather and celebrate Faith’s Life during Visiting Hours in the Brasco & Sons Memorial Funeral Home, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on Monday morning, March 16th, from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham, at 12:00 PM. Burial at Calvary Cemetery in Waltham. Reception to follow at The Chateau Restaurant, 195 School Street in Waltham, at 2:00 PM.
