Lasting Legacy: Elyse Fine Jewelers Closing After 25 Years. Big Closing Sale is Open to the Public

READING, MA– After more than 30 years designing and crafting jewelry that combines artistry with heritage, Richard Berberian is closing Elyse Fine Jewelers.

“To me, jewelry has always been a way to create wearable art that embodies an individual’s sense of style, while marking the special moments in their lives. Using gemstones and metals to create a palette of color, form and textures, my work tells a story that creates these memories,” Berberian said. It’s been an honor to design for my customers for so many years.”

Big savings and rare finds in store-wide closing sale

Berberian is closing the store he opened in 1999, and customers have a rare opportunity to purchase fine jewelry at exceptional values during Elyse Fine Jewelers’ closing sale, which opens to the public on November 8. There’s something for everyone,” Berberian said.

Everything in the store — from classic diamond jewelry to unique handcrafted designs — will be discounted as Berberian clears his carefully curated collection. Most pieces are unique, limited edition, or one-of-a-kind pieces you won’t find anywhere else. “A feature of the store is offering perfectly matched Engagement and Wedding Ring sets”, said Berberian, who has one of the largest inventories of natural diamonds and color gems in New England.

“This sale is a way of saying thanks for the support of our customers, because it means so much to us,” Berberian said.

Dedicated hands-on, personal service

Berberian credits much of his store’s success to his dedicated, long-term staff — professionals he deeply trusts and who share his commitment to exceptional service.

Instead of operating like a traditional retail jeweler, Elyse Fine Jewelers has offered private, personalized appointments to ensure customers receive his unhurried, full attention and expertise in a setting that assures their comfort and safety.

“I’ve always believed jewelry should be personal,” Berberian said. “When customers book an appointment, it becomes about them — their sense of style, their story, their milestones. That’s what makes the experience special.”

A legacy rooted in artistry and history

Berberian follows a long line of family jewelers, dating back seven generations to Turkey. His ancestors created exquisite pieces for the Ottoman Empire’s Sultans and the rich and powerful. Nine members of his family served as imperial designers, architects, and jewelers under six Ottoman sultans from the late 18th to the 19th centuries.

Today, Berberian continues that legacy through his innovative designs and meticulous craftsmanship. A Graduate Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America, he also holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Music and Education from the University of Lowell, University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and Boston University.

“Creativity runs in my family’s veins,” said Berberian, who initially pursued another career path by founding an audio and video cassette duplication company in the 1980s. After retiring from the commercial music business, his family encouraged him to embark on a career and return to the jewelry industry to continue the family legacy.

He described Elyse Jewelers as a way of transitioning his creative energy from music to the visual arts.

Giving back to the community

Berberian also values a strong commitment to community service. Over the years, he has donated to various local causes and fundraisers. He recalled restoring a custom-modified 1957  Nash Metropolitan, widely known as the “Red Sox Tribute Car,” which he plans to use in launching his charitable foundation to benefit pediatric cancer in January of 2026. The car will be made available to businesses for promotional events and trade show displays, civic organizations, July 4th Parades, and children’s birthday parties for a donation to the charity!

His other favored charities include annually supporting Ironstone Farm in Andover, MA., which provides therapeutic horseback riding for children with disabilities and veterans who have spinal cord injuries; Being a sponsor of an annual bluefin fishing tournament widely known as The Bluefin Bash, to benefit the Alzheimer’s Foundation of Massachusetts; and supporting the music and theater arts programs at Reading High School, where he graduated from.

He said giving back to the community that supports his businesses is not just an honor, but an obligation to pay forward the good fortune he’s been blessed with throughout his professional life.
