Reading Memorial High School Internship Program Prepares Students for Real-World Success

Reading, MA — As the 2024–2025 school year concludes, Reading Memorial High School is proud to highlight the incredible impact of its student internship program. Designed to help students develop essential career and life skills, the program connected students with local businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations for over 100 hours of meaningful, real-world experience.

The results speak volumes:

  • 94% of students rated their internship experience a 9 or 10 out of 10
  • 95% said internships helped prepare them for life after high school
  • 97% believe real-world learning is essential to student success
  • 100% of mentors would recommend their intern for future opportunities

Student reflections captured the deep impact of the experience:

“It was much more hands-on and active… they gave me the opportunity to learn a new skill set.”
“Learning during my internship was more practical than in the classroom. I improved my communication, digital, and time management skills.”
“Any internship will absolutely prepare you for the real world… When you pair social skills with academic learning, you get students ready for life after high school.”

Mentors, too, praised the professionalism and preparedness of RMHS interns:

“She seamlessly collaborated with our team. At a very young age, she demonstrated the highest character and maturity.”
“Our intern identified a solution to a problem my team was struggling with for weeks—any company would be lucky to have him.”
“This year’s group was the most professional and prepared we’ve had yet.”

The program not only builds durable skills like collaboration, adaptability, communication, and leadership but also provides clarity for students as they make decisions about college, career paths, and their futures.

At the program’s conclusion, RMHS welcomed families and community members to hear students share reflections and present visual portfolios of their growth. Many students earned job offers from their internship sites, solved real business problems, and took on leadership roles.

Calling All Local Businesses: Be Part of the 2026 Program

RMHS is now looking ahead to Spring 2026 and inviting local business owners and professionals to sign up to host student interns. Whether you’re in healthcare, finance, education, technology, public service, or any other sector, your mentorship can make a lasting difference in a student’s life—and provide your team with fresh ideas and valuable contributions.
