September 6, 1944 – May 21, 2025

Evelyn M. (Malven) Callahan, a resident of Reading for 60 years, passed away on May 21, 2025, at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington. She was 80 years of age.
Evelyn was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on September 6, 1944, the daughter of the late Daniel S. and Dorothy G. (McKay) Malven. Evelyn grew up in Somerville, MA, graduating from Melrose Wakefield Hospital School of Nursing as an RN. She spent many years as a caring nurse. She was a part of the planning team for the New England Rehabilitation Hospital in Woburn. Evie went on to be the first to Graduate from Emmanuel College’s Health Care Administration program in 1984. This allowed her to finish her career as the Executive Director of the Gable of Winchester.
Evie lived her life to the fullest. She did this through her commitment to her community, family and friends, who became family. She was an active member of the Old South United Methodist Church of Reading, serving on committees and singing in the choir. Part of her active life included swim classes at the YMCA, and bike riding with her dear friend Jan and her Grandson JP. Her favorite team with the Boston Red Sox. In her retirement, she spent time in her happy place “digging in the dirt”. No matter what she was to you over the years, a mother, daughter, sister, cousin, a friend or simply “Boppi”… You know you were LOVED.
Evelyn was the devoted mother of Kristin L. Callahan and her husband John Osborne of Shirley, David W. Callahan and his wife Dawna of Parker, Colorado, and Stacy L. Clough and her late husband Jason of Reading. Loving grandmother of James P. “JP” Clough of Reading.
Visiting hours will be held for Evelyn at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading on Tuesday, May 27, from 4-8PM. A funeral service celebrating Evelyn’s life will be held in the Sanctuary of The Old South United Methodist Church 6 Salem St. Reading on Wednesday May 28 at 10AM. Burial is private.
