Hyacinthe “Marcel” Doyon, 85, of Reading, Massachusetts, died peacefully on Monday, November 4, 2024, at Massachusetts General Hospital, with his daughter at his side.
Born on November 21, 1938, in Quebec, Canada, he was the only son of Cyprien and Laurentienne Doyon. The family immigrated to the United States, eventually settling in Portland, Maine. After graduating from Cheverus High School, Marcel joined the United States Air Force, serving from 1957 through 1963. He was stationed in Dover (Delaware), Japan, and Thailand. While stationed at Dover Air Force Base, he received a commendation for his quick actions when he drove a refueling unit away from a C-134 Globemaster plane after the refueling unit’s engine caught fire. In 1963, he received an honorable discharge.
Marcel was previously a member of St. Joseph’s Church (Portland, ME). He worked for over 30 years at Mercy Hospital on State Street.
Following his service in the Air Force, he met and married Pauline Therese on June 8, 1965. After Pauline’s death in 2015, he relocated to Reading, Massachusetts. He is survived by his daughter, Theresa.
Marcel enjoyed model railroading, Doctor Who, and the companionship of his cat, Junior.
Memorial donations can be made to the MSPCA or the Veterans Home at Chelsea (Massachusetts).
Visitation will be held from 4-6 Pm on Tuesday November 12th at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Avenue. Graveside Services will be held 10 Am Wednesday November 13th at New Calvary Cemetery, 1461 Broadway in South Portland.
