Guy J. Beninati of Reading, formerly of Boston’s North End, passed away on Saturday, March 4th, with his loving family by his side. Guy is the loving husband of 58 years to Sophie (Grande) Beninati. Born in Boston, he is the beloved son of the late Pasquale and Josephine (Pulpi) Beninati.
Guy grew up in the North End of Boston and was a graduate of Christopher Columbus High School. Guy owned and operated his family grocery store, Beninati Brothers, on Hanover Street in the North End for many years. Guy made a change in his career, and following his time owning the store, he became a correctional officer at the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department.
Guy’s favorite hobby was to raise and race homing pigeons. He earned many first-place trophies.
Guy was a faithful and dedicated member at St. Athanasius Church in Reading for over 52 years.
His greatest joy came from being with his family. He was devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren. Guy will be deeply missed by his loving family and many friends.
Devoted father of Lisa O’Brien and her late husband Gerard of Reading, Lori Beninati of Reading, Stephen Beninati of Reading and Gary Beninati of Chelmsford. Cherished Papa of Allison and Andrea O’Brien, Matthew, Joseph and Jessica O’Neill and Brandon Beninati. Guy also leaves many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral from the Cota Funeral Home, 335 Park St., North Reading, (Corner of Park St. and Rt. 28 at the Reading Line) on Saturday, March 11th, at 10:30am, followed by Funeral Mass to be celebrated at St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill St., Reading at 11:30am. Interment to follow at Wood End Cemetery, Reading.
Family and friends are cordially invited to visiting hours at the funeral home on Friday, March 10th from 4 to 8pm.
