Dear Editor and fellow Reading residents,

I’m writing to express my wholehearted support for Erin Gaffen and Geoffrey Coram for School Committee in our upcoming election. We are lucky to have two such dedicated volunteers who wish to support our schools by serving in this way.

Erin Gaffen has proven to be a thoughtful and conscientious member of the School Committee during her two terms so far. I know how hard she works to fully understand the issues and hear from all stakeholders. She was part of the group that brought Dr. Milaschewski to Reading as our school superintendent, and he has been highly regarded across the board during his tenure here. I feel so fortunate to have Erin continuing to serve as we go through the upcoming transition to a new superintendent; she’ll be a huge help to the new person as they come on board.

Geoffrey Coram has a long history of being a strong advocate for Reading Public Schools. As the liaison from Finance Committee to the School Committee, he has been attending and contributing to School Committee meetings for years and has a deep knowledge of the schools’ budget and financial picture, which will be a huge asset to the committee. In addition, he’s volunteered for the schools in so many ways, serving as treasurer on multiple PTOs, championing playground remodeling projects, constructing sets for high school theater productions, and more. He knows the Reading Public Schools inside and out, and he demonstrates his dedication and advocacy for them constantly. I can’t think of a better person to join the School Committee.

I hope you will join me in voting for Erin Gaffen and Geoffrey Coram on April 7, or at Town Hall this week.
