Community Garden Season Returns to Mattera Conservation Area

Mattera

Reading, MA — The Town of Reading is preparing to open its fifth season of the Community Garden at the Mattera Conservation Area.

Opened in 2022 and located across from the Cabin, the garden provides residents with the opportunity to rent individual plots to grow vegetables, herbs, or flowers. Gardeners also have the option of donating a portion of their harvest to the Reading Food Pantry, helping support local families in need.

Town officials encourage gardeners of all experience levels to apply. Applications and gardener agreements are available online at readingma.gov/communitygarden. The deadline to apply is April 1, 2026, though applications will remain open until all plots are filled.

Community members may also choose to sponsor a garden plot for the Reading Food Pantry. Additional details about sponsorship opportunities are available on the Community Garden website.
