Obituary: Philip G. Dole, Sr., 84

April 14, 1941 – December 5, 2025

Philip G. Dole, Sr., a lifelong resident of Reading, passed away on December 5, 2025, at the Care One Nursing Home in Lowell. He was 84 years of age.

Phil was born in Melrose, Massachusetts, on April 14, 1941, the son of the late Albion I. and May E. (Goodwin) Dole-Tebeau. Phil grew up in Reading and graduated from Reading Memorial High School He then went on and graduated from North Shore Community College with an associate’s degree in Fire Science. Phil was a Reading Firefighter and devoted 33 years of service to the town of Reading, retiring in 1999. Phil was also devoted to the EMS system and was the instructor coordinator for many years for the town of Reading. Phil was a 50-year member of Good Samaritan Lodge AF & AM and Order of Eastern Star in Reading. When Phil was younger, he was a percussionist and played in several local bands. He was a HAM radio operator and made many acquaintances around the world. He enjoyed boating, camping, and golf, and was a member of the Salem Willows Yacht Club, in charge of the launch operators, and also served as Fleet Captain for a year.

Phil was the beloved husband of Barbara A. (Beaton) Dole. Devoted father of Albion N. Dole and his wife Wendy of Newton, NH; Bruce C. Dole and his wife Lola of North Reading; Philip G. Dole, Jr and his wife Kim of Fitchburg; and Scott D. Dole and his wife Joanie of Newton, NH. Cherished brother of Priscilla Dole of PA; Elizabeth Schuler of PA; Martha Bongiorno of TN; Linda Russo of Reading and the late Kenneth, Albion, Steven and David Dole. He was also the loving Grumpy of 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading on Wednesday December 10 from 4pm-7pm. A Masonic Service will be held at 6:30pm. Phils funeral service and burial will be private.
