To the readers of the Reading Post,
This is a letter of gratitude.
I have been reporting on the meetings of the boards and committees in Reading for over nine years, since the inception of the Reading Post. My articles have included regular coverage of the Select Board, the School Committee, CPDC, Town Meeting, and, in times past, the ZBA. I also have, along the way, covered the Historical Commission, the Board of Registrars, the Board of Health, and several others. It has been an honor and a privilege to do my best to present a clear and unbiased view of what occurs during Reading’s “nighttime” government.
Prior to the Post, I helped cablecast hundreds of meetings on RCTV over sixteen years, most notably the School Committee and Town Meeting. I have gotten to know many great people in that time, and I appreciate the opportunity RCTV provided as a place to serve the community that I first joined in 1993.
For personal reasons, I will no longer be able to be a regular contributor to the Reading Post. I want to take this opportunity to express my thanks to the editorial board of the Post for giving me the chance to explore this avenue of service, as well as for all their suggestions and advice that have helped me craft my voice.
I want to thank RCTV for sponsoring the Post, using it to further RCTV’s mission of helping keep the residents of Reading informed about what is occurring in their government. I especially want to thank RCTV Executive Director Philip Rushworth for being “ahead of the curve” in regards to trends in community media and having the vision for an independent source of news in town.
Finally, I want to thank the readers of the Reading Post. You have embraced our manner of reporting and helped the Post achieve many of its goals. I hope you will continue to support the Post as it transitions into a new era.
As a closing note, Reading may be in for some challenging times ahead, but I am confident in the basic decency of most of the residents in this town and believe that you will come through it all the stronger.
With gratitude,
Kevin H. Vendt
