Obituary: Estelle M. (Davis) Monahan, 91

July 23, 1932 ~ October 11, 2023

Estelle Martha “Etu” Monahan died on October 11, 2023, at age 91, in her Reading, MA home, where she was in hospice care during illness.

Estelle, nee Estelle Davis, was a proud native of Brooklyn, NY—she was born and raised in Brighton Beach, and she and her beloved husband George raised their children—Noel, Brian, David, and Dara—in Sheepshead Bay. Estelle spent her retirement at Heritage Hills in Somers, NY, and after her husband died in 2005, with her family in Reading. Estelle delighted audiences under the community theatre lights for decades, and she studied as an adult at Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn. Estelle worked at Metropolitan Jewish Geriatric Center, Mount Kisco Medical Group, and other medical practices. She took great joy in cooking, the New York Times crossword puzzle, speaking in Italian, and knitting brightly colored blankets, scarves, and hats, which will keep her family warm for years to come.

Etu will be missed in her Reading home by her son David, his wife Lindsey, and grandchildren George and Lillian. She is also survived by her daughter Noel, son-in-law Bob Brown, grandson Robert and his wife Emily and their son Oliver, grandson Ben and his fiancée Alli, and grandson Jake; by her son Brian and grandchildren Kim, Emily, and Michael and his wife Shirel; and by her dear daughter Dara.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful hospice care staff at Beth Israel Lahey Health, and in particular, Estelle’s nurse Chris Guard, who brought her so many smiles and so much comfort in her time of need.

In lieu of flowers, Estelle’s family encourages donations to the Quannapowitt Players, or any worthy cause.

The family will have a private celebration of Estelle’s life at a later date.
