John D. Churchill, a longtime resident of Reading, died Thursday, June 8 at the age of 96.
Born in Nova Scotia, Canada September 1, 1926, he was the son of the late Dwight and Dorothy (DeJarnett) Churchill.
John was raised in Lynn; he was a graduate of Lynn English High School. After graduation, he served in the Navy during World WAR II. He returned home and went to Northeastern University on the G.I. bill. He went on to graduate with a degree in Engineering. John had a long successful career with New England Telephone and retired as the Chief Engineer. He was a nature lover and enjoyed walks in the woods. He also loved playing the Stock Market and watching the Financial channel.
John was the loving father of Mark A. Churchill and his companion Frances Desmarais of Dracut, Sandra J. Nolfi and her husband Dennis of Reading, Keith D. Churchill of Sanbornton, NH and Carol O’Donoghue and her husband Brian of Reading. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren, Keith Jr., Amy, Matthew, Christopher and Katharine, and great-grandson Declan.
His Funeral Service will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield, on Monday at 11:30 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 1-3 p.m. Interment, Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
