Obituary: Susan C. (Crane) Sansom, 75

December 17, 1947 – March 15, 2023

Susan “Sue” Crane Sansom, a resident of Reading for 51 years, passed away on March 15, 2023, at the Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading. She was 75 years of age.

Sue was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on December 17, 1947, the daughter of the late Charles and Augusta (Garland) Crane. She grew up in Cambridge, MA, and was a graduate of Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School, and then went on to receive her certificate in Dental Assisting before working for a number of Boston area dental offices, including Dr. Marcel P. Boisvert of Reading Orthodontics, and Dr. Robert C. Wilson of Winchester Orthodontics. 

Sue was a very involved wife, “Mom,” “Auntie,” and “Grammy”: She frequently attended concerts, musicals, plays, recitals, RMHS Coffee Houses, figure skating competitions, baseball and hockey games, and led Campfire Girls and Cub Scout packs. She taught Sunday School at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Reading, MA, and enjoyed yearly summer vacations at the family “Camp” on Country Pond in NH and time on “The Boat” on Lake Winnipesaukee, NH. She also greatly enjoyed taking annual family foliage trips throughout New England, sewing, knitting, and drinking coffee while catching up with old friends.

Sue was the beloved wife of Donald W. Sansom, whom she was married to for 51 years. Devoted mother of Donna Tibedo and her husband Tracy of Uxbridge; Bobby Sansom and his wife Elissa Huber-Anderson of Arlington; Sarah Reczek and her husband Ed of Stoneham; and Carol Sansom of Reading. Loving Grammy of Katherine, Sabrina, Luke and Hope Tibedo; Parker and Lander Huber-Sansom; Hannah and Melanie Reczek; and Charlie Sansom. Sue is also survived by her sister Joyce Patten and nephew John Patten of Peabody; and the families of her nieces Debbie Sansom, Sherry White, and Barbara Novelli of TX, and Linda Fernandez of FL.     

Visitation hours will be held at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading on Tuesday, March 21 between 5-7pm. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home the following day, Wednesday, March 22 at 12pm, followed by the burial at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield.
