Saturday March 4 at 4 PM
Reading, MA — Amanda Freeman, assistant professor of sociology at University of Hartford, will be at Whitelam Books Saturday, March 4, at 4 PM to discuss her new book, Getting Me Cheap: How Low Wage Work Traps Women and Girls in Poverty.
Getting Me Cheap, co-written with fellow sociologist Lisa Dodson, is based on years of research and interviews with women working low-wage jobs in the food, health care, and home care industries. Their riveting stories reveal how women in these jobs struggle to balance motherhood with work, and often end up trapped in poverty. In addition to discussing this important issue, Professor Freeman will discuss the policy solutions explored in her book for organizing women across class lines.
Publishers Weekly calls Getting Me Cheap: How Low Wage Work Traps Women and Girls in Poverty “empathic and eye-opening.” Copies are available for purchase now at Whitelam Books and will be available at this event while supplies last.
