Obituary: Marilyn (Brown) MacCaughey, 86

Marilyn (Brown) MacCaughey of Reading, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. She was 86 years old.

A lifelong resident of Reading, Marilyn was the daughter of the late Cyrus and Delphine (Pineau) Brown.

Marilyn graduated from Reading High School in 1954, completed a secretarial course, and then worked as a secretary to the President of State Street Bank in Boston. Then, after raising her children, Marilyn worked locally at Reading Cooperative Bank in the mortgage department until her retirement in 2007.

As a young woman, Marilyn was an avid bowler, and then later in life, she enjoyed browsing yard sales, gardening, and being challenged by crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and most recently, “wordle.” She was a faithful watcher of Jeopardy and numerous cooking shows.

Throughout her life, Marilyn made many summer trips to Prince Edward Island, Canada. This was the birthplace of her parents, the home of many relatives, and the source of countless fond memories.

Marilyn was the loving wife of the late Robert MacCaughey. She was the devoted mother of Darren MacCaughey and his fiancee Christina Bennett and Kristen Scarpaci and her husband Jason. Cherished “Grams” of Tristan, Jonathan, Peregrine, Jack, and Daniella. Dear sister of Joseph Brown and his late wife Pat, Albert Brown and his wife Pam, Leonard Brown and his late wife Lynne, Thomas Brown and his wife Nona, Helen LeBlanc and her husband Harry and the late Lorraine Brown. She is also survived by many loving nieces and one nephew.

Funeral from the Doherty Barile Family Funeral Home 11 Linden St. READING on Wednesday January 18th, 2023 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Marilyn’s Eternal Life in St. Agnes Church 186 Woburn St. Reading at 10:30 AM. Interment Charles Lawn Cemetery 182 Charles St. Reading.
