Obituary: Dorothy M. (Campbell) Prudente, 77

July 22, 1945 – January 13, 2023

Dorothy Mae Prudente of Reading passed away peacefully on January 13, 2023, after a short but brave battle with cancer.

Born and raised in Everett, she was the daughter of the late Edward, and the late Mabel Campbell. Tough and stubborn as always, she fought until the end and then was surrounded by her family as she transitioned from this world.

Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Nothing lit her face up more than hearing her grandkids call her Grammy and for her to spoil them in return. She was a loving and devoted wife of 50 years to her husband Richard, and they made a life in Reading for their family in those five decades.

Dorothy lived and breathed everything Reading, and her home was her pride and joy. She especially loved being the loudest and most passionate parent at any wrestling or swim meet her kids were in. Dorothy remembered every friend and classmate of her kids even years after the fact and they remember her fondly as well. In addition to her husband Richard, Dorothy is survived by two sons, Matt Prudente of San Diego, CA, and Tim Prudente and his wife Melissa of Danvers; one daughter, Elizabeth MacKinnon and her husband Peter of Pepperell; and five grandchildren, Isla and Max Prudente, Alison MacKinnon, and Odin and Deacon Prudente. She is also survived by one brother, Arthur Campbell of Florida; and was preceded in death by one brother, the late Edward Campbell.

The funeral will be from the Douglass, Edgerley & Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn St., Reading on Thursday, January 19 at 9:00 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill St., Reading at 10:30 am. Burial will be at the Wood End Cemetery in Reading. Funeral home visiting hours will be on Wednesday evening from 4:00-8:00 pm.
