March 8, 1940 – April 25, 2022
Roy B. Parker, 82, resident of Simpsonville, South Carolina, passed away on April 25, 2022.
Roy was born on March 8, 1940, in Everett, Massachusetts, the son of Byron and Daisy Parker, of Reading Massachusetts. Roy is survived by his wife Christine Bach Parker, of 56 years; daughter Cynthia Parker of Monmouth, Maine, daughter Samantha Parker, son-in-law Benjamin Miller, and grandson Calvin Miller of Acton, Massachusetts; several cousins; and Charley the cat, of Simpsonville, South Carolina.
Roy received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Lowell Technical Institute, and for most of his career, he worked in research, development, and marketing of high-tech fibers, yarns, and fabrics around the world. Colleagues remember his on-the-job kindness, warmth, and down-to-earth personality.
Roy loved gardening, handyman projects, reading, traveling, cinema, messing about in boats, golfing, making tollhouse cookies, real chocolate fudge, and eating chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. He liked the local Senior Center for the exercise and line-dance classes and thoroughly enjoyed going on their beach retreats. In the early 1970’s Roy built a 3-masted schooner in the downstairs family room in Pennsylvania and sailed it with a crew of family for many years on various lakes in New Hampshire and Maine. He will be remembered for his flower and vegetable gardens, fruit trees, making green tomato relish, and helping neighbors. He loved being out on the lake in Maine, sleeping on his beloved screened porch, cutting trees and chopping wood for the woodstove.
A memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ASPCA or any animal welfare organization of your choice.
