Susan L. (Mathey) Van Horn a resident of Reading for 56 years, formerly of Stoneham, passed away on March 30, 2022, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. She was 76 years of age.
Susan was born in Winthrop, Massachusetts, on November 29, 1945, the daughter of Edward G. and Ruth G. (MacDonald) Mathey. Susan grew up in Stoneham and was a graduate of Stoneham High School class of 1963. She owned and operated Buttons and Bows Day Care in Reading for 40 years. Susan was an avid baker and loved to entertain family and friends around the holidays.
Her family was first and foremost in her life. Susan was the devoted mother of Kimberley R. Van Horn (John) of Dover, NH, Brian C. Van Horn of Reading, and Melanie Powell (Nick) of Harwichport. She was the loving grandmother of Alexander Powell (Meghan) of Scarborough, ME, Matthew Powell, Jason, and Derek Van Horn all of Reading.
A visitation will be held at the Douglass, Edgerley, and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading on Monday, April 4 from 4-7PM. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 5 at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park 185 Lake St. in Peabody at 11am.
