Obituary: Kevin M. Walsh, 61

October 19, 1959 – September 7, 2021

Kevin M. Walsh, of Wilmington, passed away on September 7, 2021, at age 61.

Kevin was married to Christine M. Riley. He was the founder of three companies. Two of the three are multimillion-dollar businesses still in operation today. He was co-founder of Skydive New England in Lebanon, Maine, still in operation. He also founded Walsh Partners Capital Corporation, which raised more than $6 billion for institutional investors. He sold both of these companies. In recent years, he enjoyed a Financial Planning (CFP) service until his passing.

Kevin was born on October 19, 1959, to Thomas D. Walsh and the late Ann M. Walsh. He grew up in Milton and attended Boston College High School, where he was a three-year starter in varsity football. He then attended Bowdoin College, where he majored in Romance Languages. He also studied in Spain. Kevin was fluent in Spanish all of his life.

Kevin was a skydiver and performed almost 2,000 skydives. He was also a pilot with 3,000 flying hours. And, he was a mountain hiker, having climbed all but two of the sixty-seven 4,000-footers in New England (all but the Bigelows in Maine).

Kevin was also a George Orwell fan. He loved the book “1984”, but he wanted to prove Orwell’s prediction wrong – with a symbolic act of optimism. So, he planned an adventure on January 1st, 1984: “I wanted to do something that would celebrate the arrival of the new year—despite Orwell’s ominous warning,” said Kevin. He had his skydiving buddies strap him to 57 balloons for an ascent up to about 6,000 feet and for a ride across Massachusetts. Approaching Boston, he dis-engaged and parachuted to earth. That adventure had never been attempted before. It made newspapers around the world. Kevin has always said, “That was my biggest adventure.”

In addition to his father, he leaves one son, Daniel Walsh and his partner, Kerin Gaydou of Boulder, Colorado. He also leaves a sister Kathleen Walsh Samp and her husband Edward Samp of Wayland and Moultonborough, NH, a sister Patricia Greene and her late husband Frederick of Newton, and a brother Thomas Walsh, Jr. and his wife Hiroe of Quincy.

In lieu of flowers, Kevin asks that you perform an act of kindness and ask for nothing in return—seriously!
