Chester Francis, “Chet” Tyminski P.E. of Reading, MA, was born in Greenwich, Connecticut on July 13, 1924, son of the late Karol and Bronislawa Tyminski. Cherished husband for 51 years of the late Marian (McGivern) Tyminski. Loving and devoted father and father-in-law to Stephen and Marie Tyminski, and Elizabeth “Lisa” Tyminski and Michael Kelley. Proud Papa of Major Stephen Tyminski and his wife Deborah. Big Papa to Patrick and Christopher Tyminski. He is also survived by his sister Helen Skrzypczak and by many nieces and nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Stanley Tyminski, William Tyminski, Joseph Tyminski, and Blanche Behringer. Veteran United States Army.
A member of the Greatest Generation, Chet served in World War II in the Pacific Campaign. After the war, Chet attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering. During college, he met the love of his life, Marian McGivern, at a classmate’s wedding. Chet moved up to Massachusetts to marry Marian starting a 37-year career with General Electric in Lynn, MA working in the aircraft engine division. Chet, Marian, and Stephen moved to Reading in 1957 and became members of St. Agnes Parish. Chet was a man of great faith and served as a lector, eucharist minister, and their first Parish Council President. Chet was a proud 3rd and 4th-degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1031, serving as Grand Knight in 1970 and served in almost every leadership position.
A true engineer, he loved figuring out how things work. He had a talent for electronics, woodworking, computers, and home repairs. He was happiest when he had a project going, often many at a time. Soon after Chet moved to Reading, Blinkie the Talking Pumpkin, a beloved continuing tradition for generations first began appearing on Halloween but interestingly Chet was never home on Halloween. He enjoyed spending summers on the Cape in South Yarmouth working on the beach house and watching the boats and planes overhead. Wherever Chet would go, he would run into someone he knew and was always ready to lend a helping hand. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for his children or his wife, especially with her many volunteer efforts.
Funeral from the Doherty Barile Family Funeral Home 11 Linden St. READING on Saturday, March 20th at 9:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Chet’s Eternal Life in St. Agnes Church 186 Woburn St. at 10:30 am. Family and friends are kindly invited to gather and share memories with the family on Friday, March 19, 2021, from 4 pm to 8 pm. Due to state regulations for Covid-19, a mask is required while in the funeral home and not more than 50% capacity in the funeral home at one time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Chet’s name to the Wounded Warriors Project, or St. Agnes Parish, Reading, MA.
