Obituary: Robert I. Nordstrand, 91

July 03, 1929 – December 12, 2020

Robert I. Nordstrand passed away December 12, 2020, at 91 leaving his beloved wife of 57 years, Nathalie Johnson Nordstrand.

Bob’s father was an officer in the Coast Guard, stationed in Gloucester, MA when Bob and his older sister were born. When Bob was two, his father was transferred to Florida where the family lived until 1941. The family moved to Marblehead, MA during World War II when his father was stationed in Salem, MA. Bob graduated from Marblehead High School, Boston University, and Boston University Graduate School of Management in 1951. During the Korean War, he served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy in the Pacific and United States. After working in the banking business, Bob joined RM Bradley, a Boston real estate company as a senior vice president in the appraisal division, working until his retirement. Bob and Nathalie lived in Reading for over 57 years. He was active in town politics, serving as a town meeting member and on the board of assessors for 40 years. He was active in the YMCA, the Reading Public Library, and many civic organizations.

Bob was the son of the late Axel Nordstrand and Jessie Irving Nordstrand of Marblehead, and the brother of the late Ruth Emery and her husband, Norman, DDS of Lynn. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his nephews and niece, Kenneth Emery (Laurie) Colorado, Phillip Emery (Leah) Montana, Russell Emery Lynn, MA, Janet Emery Gregoire (Jim) New Hampshire and the late Nancy Goodnow (Roger) Indiana and many great-nieces and nephews. He was the brother-in-law of Gerrie Johnson Bunker (James) Ipswich, and the late Marcia Johnson Gaudette.

A private graveside service was held. In the future, a memorial and celebration of Bob’s life will be scheduled.
