January 22, 1938 – April 22, 2020
John “Roger” Currie of Reading passed away on April 22, 2020, from Parkinson’s Disease. He was born on January 22, 1938, and was raised in Medford, MA, and has been a resident of Reading for 54 years. He was the son of John and Mildred Currie and was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Currie. Roger graduated from Brown University in Providence, RI, 1959, and also attended Northeastern University.
Roger had many years of experience in the area of commercial and consumer lending and worked at Dowd Paper Company for 25 years. He was a Certified Credit Executive and had served eight years as director of the National Association of Credit Managers. He finished his career as a mortgage originator for the Medford Savings Bank/Citizens Bank.
Roger is survived by his wife, Judy married for 58 years, and sons Stephen, his companion Darlene Mack, and Matthew and his wife Elizabeth of Lexington, SC. He also leaves five grandchildren-Ashley Gray, Tyler, Jamie, Mackenzie, and Madisyn Currie. Roger was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a loyal friend to all those who knew him. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and was known as “The Legend”.
Roger is also survived by James and Elizabeth Orser, Sharon Bubar, Jill and Robert Shaw, and Cathy Orser and partner Gail Duchaine, who live in Maine and Carolyn Roberts, Littleton, CO. He enjoyed his family times.
After retiring, Roger took up golf which he loved with a passion. He had a wonderful group of men that he thoroughly enjoyed and played until Parkinson’s Disease took over. He was an avid Patriots fan.
Roger truly loved the United States and always wore his American flag pin every day. He and Judy were very fortunate to travel throughout most of the states, the islands, and many trips to Europe with their friends, who they have known for 45+ years. His dry sense of humor will be missed.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date under the direction of the Douglass, Edgerley & Bessom Funeral Home in Reading, MA.
