READING – The Science Olympiad Team at Coolidge Middle School will host its annual yard and bake sale on May 7 from 8:00am to 2:00pm. All proceeds from the sale will be used to support the Science Olympiad Team, winners of the 2016 Massachusetts Science Olympiad. In May, the team will compete at the National Science Olympiad hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
The team won first place in the Massachusetts Middle School Science Olympiad State Competition at Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts on March 17, earning eleven gold medals, four silver medals and two bronze medals at the state competition. This is the 23rd year they have won, earning the honor of representing Massachusetts at Nationals.
The team is comprised of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who competed against 28 middle schools in 23 events covering a diverse array of science, engineering, and processing skills. This years events included elastic launch gliders, meteorology, anatomy, and food science, where students learned about dairy products, composition of milk products, and nutritional values, while doing experiments on making butter, cheese curds, and ice cream.
The Coolidge Science Olympiad Team is accepting donations for their yard sale. Details can found on their website at: www.coolidgeyardsale.org
