Reading DPW Spring Schedule now available

readingdpwREADING – The Reading Department of Public Works has released it’s spring schedule of events.  Street sweeping around town is scheduled to begin the week of March 28, 2016 weather permitting.  Residents are asked to help the process by sweeping any debris from sidewalks into gutters and moving any parked cars that will interfere with sweeping operations. Street sweepers cannot pick up brush, branches or yard waste.  Residents may bring these items to the Compost Area located on Strout Ave.

On Saturday, May 14 residents may leave scrap metal on their curbside for pick up.  Sample items that will be picked up include: Metal Sheds, Wood Stoves (no furnaces), Cast Iron Radiators, Snow blowers (remove gas and oil) Lawnmowers, Guts from a piano, Cast Iron Sinks /tubs, Metal Desks and File Cabinets and more go to the town website at www.readingma.gov for a more complete list of items.

The Department also announced its biannual recycling day at the DPW garage at 75 New Crossing Road on Saturday, May 21st from 9:00-1:00. The following may be recycled on that day:

Paper Shredding – One box limit (per household)
Rigid Plastics – Plastic toys, chairs, containers, etc.
Electronics – Recycle your old electronics! (no TV’s or CRT’s)

Household hazardous waste materials collection will be on Saturday, June 4 from 9:00AM to 1:00PM at the DPW garage on New Crossing Rd.  Residents may bring materials for disposal, but a driver’s license will be required to prove residency.
