Also will tackle a liquor license transfer, restaurant alteration
Tonight the Board of Selectmen will hold a public hearing on transferring the liquor license from The Wine Shop, which recently closed its doors, to the owners of the Stop & Shop on Walker’s Brook Drive.

As of January 2016, Reading’s potential number of package store licenses increased from five to seven. The former Atlantic grocery store on Haven Street was the first non-package store to be issued a package store license in Reading. Selectmen at the time issued a license to the Atlantic that included a few extra provisions, including the percentage of the store in which liquor could be displayed. If the Board chooses to allow the transfer from The Wine Shop to Stop & Shop, it could impose similar provisions.
On a related note, the Selectmen will also review an application from Fusilli’s Cucina, the former Sam’s Bistro, to add outdoor patio seating to the restaurant; the Selectmen need to approve the plan because the restaurant has a license to serve alcoholic beverages.
Mutual Gas Station 85 Main Street
Additionally, the Board will be considering an application to double the size of the gasoline tanks from 12,000 to 24,000 gallons at the Mutual Gas Station located at 85 Main Street.
Around 8:00pm, the Board will hold a joint meeting with the School Committee, Finance Committee and the Library Board of Trustees to determine the size of the override request. The Board voted at the August 9th meeting to call for a special election on October 18th for a proposition 2 1/2 override. Town Manager Bob LeLacheur has recommended to the Board that a decision about the amount of the override be determined at this meeting and that the language of the ballot question be worked out so that the voters will have the maximum amount of time to make a decision regarding their vote.
The meeting is open to the public and will be aired live on RCTV channel 10 (Comcast) and 33 (Verizon).
