Lynnfield, MA – Joseph Markey of Lynnfield has officially announced his candidacy for State Representative in the 20th Middlesex District, seeking to fill the seat being vacated by Brad Jones. Launching his campaign with strong momentum, Markey has already raised over $30,000 in his first week and secured key endorsements from Laborers Local 22, Laborers Local 175, SEIU NAGE, Governor’s Councilor Terrence Kennedy, District Attorney Paul Tucker, and other local officials.

Running on the campaign theme, “For our Families. For our Future.”, Markey is focused on tackling the rising cost of living and ensuring that families across the district have the opportunity to succeed.
“I am proud to announce my candidacy for State Representative in the 20th Middlesex District,” said Markey. “I’m running because every family deserves a fair shot, an affordable place to call home, and the opportunity to succeed. Massachusetts leads in bold ideas, yet many are being priced out of the communities they love. From skyrocketing housing costs to rising energy bills, it is becoming harder for residents to stay and build a future here.”
Markey brings a record of advocacy and practical leadership to the race:
- As a labor law attorney, he has spent years defending people’s rights and fighting for families.
- As Housing Commissioner and Lynnfield Town Moderator, he advanced affordable housing initiatives and guided responsible budgeting and implemented transparency rules to bring people together.
- As a Civil Service Commissioner, he works to ensure fairness and accountability in the public workforce.
His commitment to public service is deeply personal. Raised in a union household, Markey understands the importance of having strong advocates in government. Today, as the husband of a public school teacher and the father of a young daughter, he says his family fuels his dedication to the community.
“We are at a pivotal moment for our district,” Markey added. “I am ready to deliver results-driven leadership that lowers costs and protects your rights.”
Markey is encouraging residents to learn more about his campaign, get involved, and join him in building a stronger future for the district.
