Wakefield Fire Department Responds to Two-Alarm House Fire

WAKEFIELD — Fire Chief Michael Sullivan reports that the Wakefield Fire Department responded to a two-alarm house fire on Monday morning.

On Monday, Nov. 25, at about 9:54 a.m., Fire Prevention Officer Captain David Shinney was on his way to do an inspection when he observed a house fire at 241 Pleasant Street.

Captain Shinney alerted the Department of the fire via radio and companies arrived on scene at 9:56 a.m. Captain Shinney also stopped at the scene and assisted in fighting the fire.

Responding companies observed heavy smoke coming from the attic of the home. A second alarm was quickly struck to bring additional companies to the scene at 10:06 a.m.

All residents of the home were able to safely evacuate on their own.

Firefighters safely rescued one pet dog from the home.

Crews completely extinguished the fire and cleared the scene by 12:30 p.m.

There were no reported injuries.

The home suffered heavy damage as a result of the fire and has been declared uninhabitable. The residents were able to find a place to stay.

Wakefield Fire, with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit attached to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, is currently investigating the cause of the fire, but it is not believed to be suspicious in nature.

Mutual aid was provided by the Stoneham, Melrose, Reading, and North Reading Fire Departments. Lynnfield, Woburn, and Saugus Fire provided station coverage.

“Fighting this fire was a group effort. The quick and aggressive action of the initial crews who responded will allow for the home to be rebuilt. I would like to thank our mutual aid partners as well for the support and extra personnel they provided,” said Chief Sullivan. “I would also like to commend Captain Shinney for spotting and promptly reporting the fire before the situation became more dangerous to the residents.”
