Reading Chooses Harris

Reading, MA — Despite an electoral win for former President Donald Trump nationally, voters in Reading preferred Vice President Kamala Harris for the top office in the land. Based on the unofficial results posted by Town Clerk Laura Gemme, presidential candidate and current Vice President Kamala Harris received 10,032 votes in Reading. Former President Trump received 5,467 votes in Reading. 

With 9,044 votes, Reading also chose to send incumbent Elizabeth Warren back to the United States Senate. Republican challenger John Deaton received 5,667 votes. Democratic incumbent for the Massachusetts Sixth Congressional District, Seth Moulton, received 11,431 votes in Reading.

Jason Lewis, the unchallenged incumbent State Senator for the Fifth Middlesex District, received 10,488 votes in Reading, and Bradley Jones, the unchallenged incumbent representative from the Twentieth Middles District, received 4,137 votes. In the Thirtieth Middlesex District, unchallenged incumbent Richard Haggerty garnered 6,544 votes. 

On ballot question one, 10,638 Reading voters chose to allow audits of the state legislature, while 4,124 voted no on the question. With question two, 8,894 Reading voters chose to end the MCAS as a graduation requirement, while 6,685 voted to keep the requirement. Question three asked if rideshare drivers should be allowed to unionize. Reading voters said no in a close vote, 7,052 to 7,855. Reading also rejected question four, which would legalize certain psychedelic substances by a vote of 5,795 to 9,375. O, the final ballot question, raising the minimum wage for tipped workers, 4,352 Reading voters said yes while 10,883 said no.

Seventy-six percent of Reading voters participated in the November 5 election.
