To the Editor:
There sure is a lot of intentional forgetting going on during this special election season.
Forgetting that before there was a disagreement about when to elect a new chair for the Select Board, there was two months of chaos ignited by Chris Haley, who loudly and proudly, in an attempt to be Ms. McCarthy’s knight-in-shining-armor, launched spurious and injurious accusations of criminal behavior against the acting chair of the Select Board. Are people really okay with that becoming an acceptable standard of behavior by an elected official? I’m not.
Forgetting that Ms. Murphy’s vaunted instructional motion at the Annual Town Meeting failed because we have a competent, well-run Finance Committee and professional staff who have already been planning to provide well-publicized forums to discuss the various capital projects under consideration. Do we think that one attempt at Town Meeting provides Ms. Murphy with something significant to add to her resume? I don’t.
Forgetting that Ms. Murphy’s number one public supporter with his large political signs on display daily downtown is Chris Haley who also runs a purported online newspaper that censors what it publishes. Do people really think Ms. Murphy will be an independent actor if elected to the Select Board? I certainly don’t.
Forgetting that the strides our community has taken to implement a more equitable tax structure, implement tiered water rates, and move toward a more robust open and welcoming community are likely at risk with the election of Ms. Murphy. Is what we risk losing worth a vote for Ms. Murphy? I don’t think so.
I ask you not to forget and join me in voting for Tara Gregory for Select Board on or before May 14.
