Reading Police Chief Mark D. Segalla has announced that a team of assessors from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday, August 2nd, to begin examining various aspects of the Reading Police Department’s policies and procedures, operations and facilities.
Verification by the assessment team that the department meets the commission’s standards is part of a voluntary process that the Reading Police Department participates in to gain state accreditation. The set of standards are set and maintained by the professionals, for the professionals.
The Massachusetts Police Accreditation Program consists of 257 mandatory standards as well as 125 optional standards. In order for a department to achieve accreditation, they must meet all mandatory standards as well as 55% of the optional standards.
The Reading Police Department strives for professional excellence in all areas. “Accreditation is a great accomplishment that takes the whole department’s involvement and assistance to achieve” Segalla said.
