Reading, MA — As the polls in Reading closed on election day, unofficial results show that Reading chose to stick with the incumbents for the contested town-wide offices in 2023. Only 22.7% of those eligible voted in the Tuesday election.
In a close Select Board race, incumbent Karen Gately Herrick with 2,430 votes, will return to the board. She will be joined by fellow incumbent Carlo Bacci who received 2,392 votes. Challenger Melissa Murphy garnered 2,387 votes in the race.
In the race for two seats on the Board of Library Trustees, Incumbent Monette Verrier was reelected to the board with 2,875 votes. Newcomer Christian Popp, who received 2,254 votes, will also be joining the board. Brian Curry, with 1,686 votes, and Michael Terry, with 1,468 votes, were unsuccessful in their bids to be elected to the board.
In the uncontested races, Alan Foulds was reelected as Moderator with 3,326 votes. Erin Gaffen, with 2,859 votes, and Carla Nazzaro, with 2,719 votes, will be returning to the School Committee. Municipal light board candidate Robert Coulter received 3,146 votes.
All results are unofficial, according to Town Clerk Laura Gemme, who will certify them at a later date. The Reading Post will publish the complete election results, including races for Town Meeting, once they are official.
