Obituary: Alice M. Fahey, 92

April 12, 1929 – August 28, 2021

Alice Marie Fahey was born with a maternal instinct and natural and wonderful ability to nurture children. As a maternity nurse for over thirty years at Winchester Hospital, she was the one to help cradle and coddle and in her own way love the thousands of newborn children brought into the world. She loved her job for over thirty years before enjoying retirement in 1991.

Equally, she was the much-loved aunt and great-aunt to the many members of her family whom she adored. Not blessed in this life with offspring of her own ‘Aunt Alice’ enriched the lives of those in her family. Alice was notorious for quietly slipping each one some denomination of money…with no reason. She adored her family, and it was a mutual love affair.

Alice was born on April 12, 1929, in Somerville, Massachusetts a daughter of the late Julius F. And Helen A. (Johnson) Fahey. A graduate of Somerville High School she then earned her nursing degree from Tewksbury State Hospital School of Nursing.

A resident of Reading since 1954 Alice had a love for traveling, reading, and puzzle making. Alice passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 29, 2021, at Sawtelle Hospice Residence. She was 92.

Alice was predeceased by her parents, and brother, Leo F. Fahey, and brother-in-law, Edward W. Haley.

She leaves her beloved sister, Lillian T. Haley of Reading; nieces and nephews, Carol Doucette and her husband Ken, Nancy Hamann and her husband Maurice, Edward Haley Jr. and his wife Judy, Robert Haley and his wife Leslie, Leo Fahey Jr., Daniel Fahey, Kathy Fahey, and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Family and friends are kindly invited to gather and share her memories with the family on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at the Doherty Barile Family Funeral Home 11 Linden St. READING from 9:30 to 10:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Alice’s Eternal Life in St. Agnes Church 186 Woburn St. Reading at 11:00 am. Interment will be in Forest Glen Cemetery Reading.
