Educators back Joe Markey’s fight for fully funded public schools in Lynnfield, Middleton, North Reading, and Reading
LYNNFIELD, MA — The Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA), the 117,000-member union representing educators across the Commonwealth, today endorsed Joe Markey for State Representative in the 20th Middlesex District. The endorsement puts the teachers of Lynnfield, Middleton, North Reading, and Reading squarely behind Markey’s campaign.
“Joe Markey is committed to ensuring students and educators have the resources they need and to fully funding our public schools,” said MTA President Matt Bach. “MTA educators are proud to endorse Joe for State Rep. because of his commitment to working families and his belief that strong, fully funded public schools create opportunities for every student regardless of their ZIP code.”
“As the husband of a public school teacher, I see every day what our educators give to their students: the early mornings, the late nights, and the heart they bring to every classroom,” said Markey. “I’m proud to stand with the MTA. In the State House, I’ll fight to fully fund our public schools so every educator has the resources to teach and every child has the chance to succeed.”
Markey has made public education and the rising cost of living the cornerstones of his campaign, and he brings real experience to the job. Joe worked on a paving crew through law school. He served six terms as Lynnfield Town Moderator and five years as an elected Lynnfield Housing Commissioner, and since 2024 he has served on the Massachusetts Civil Service Commission.
Raised in a union household, Markey has also earned the endorsements of Lynnfield & North Reading Fire Fighters, Mass Retiree’s, Laborers Local 22, Laborers Local 175, and SEIU NAGE.
Markey’s Republican opponent, Trevor Currier, voted last election cycle as a Masconomet School Committee member to lay off seven teaching positions and a school security officer [Source: Masco Regional Meeting Minutes 03-19-25.] Markey will fight for the funding that keeps those educators and staff in our schools.
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026. To learn more about Joe Markey’s campaign, visit facebook.com/Joemarkeyforrep.
