Deolinda C. Gomez, 87, of Reading, formerly of Wakefield, died Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the Reading Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation.
Born in Cambridge on July 11, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Francisco and Deolinda (Carvalho) Medeiros.
Deolinda was raised in Cambridge and Somerville. She was a graduate of Northeastern University, where she got her degree in Education and also earned her Master’s. She taught third grade for many years at the Goodyear School in Woburn, and was a tutor to many local children. After she retired, she loved hearing from former students and catching up over lunch with the other teachers with whom she taught.
Deolinda was gifted with many talents, including singing, playing the piano and organ, and speaking fluently in three languages. She enjoyed learning new things and looked forward to going to the Senior Center to catch up with her friends and continue her learning and crafts.
She was a devout parishioner of St. Joseph’s parish where she taught CCD, participated in Bible study, and volunteered. She loved Jesus with all of her heart and led her life as a Christian example to many.
Deolinda was the loving mother of Alex Gomez of Wakefield. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Roland, Francis, Lawrence, Edward, and Fernando. She was the beloved “Aunt Linda” to many nieces and nephews.
To her family and friends, she was generous, supportive, and fun to be around. She loved people, especially children, and animals too, and they all could not help but love her warmly back.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 at 11 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday prior to the Mass from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
