December 6, 1937 ~ June 10, 2026

Marguerite Ann Daly of Winchester, MA (formerly Brighton, Yarmouthport, and Reading, MA) passed away the morning of June 10th, 2026, at Winchester Hospital. She succumbed to complications from several falls and fought bravely until the end.
Marguerite was born in Boston to Thomas Daly and Kathleen Daly (neé Whooley) of Skibbereen, County Cork, Ireland, on December 6th, 1937. Thomas and Kathleen raised Marguerite and her siblings in the Irish Catholic tradition. She attended St. Columbkille’s School in Brighton from kindergarten through 12th grade.
Marguerite was devoted to her family and cared for both of her parents as they aged until their deaths in 1980 and 1990, respectively.
After high school, Marguerite attended Fisher Junior College in Back Bay and embarked on a career in administration at various companies in the Boston area.
She loved travel adventures – she crewed on a schooner, traveled to Russia solo, through much of Europe, and, of course, Ireland. She was an avid reader, a lover of the arts writ large, and took great pleasure in introducing many young people (including her baby brother) to live theatre of all kinds. Marguerite was broad-minded and spoke her mind.
It was in the late 1970s at Dennison Manufacturing Company in Framingham where she met Don Solmon, a project engineer and US Navy veteran who charmed her and made her laugh. They would later marry and move to Yarmouthport on Cape Cod. Marguerite adored living on the Cape, and she and Don had many happy days there, until his death in 2008. After retiring from Dennison, Marguerite threw herself into her interests. She was a talented chef and hosted frequent gatherings of friends and family. She also took part-time jobs with Talbots and Bloomingdale’s, putting her impeccable fashion sense to use. She believed fervently in helping others, and her passions allowed her to do just that. She was a committed volunteer for Meals on Wheels through Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands.
Marguerite is predeceased by her parents, Tom and Kathleen, her sister Ann Skladany and brother-in-law Bill Skladany, and her husband, Don Solmon. She leaves behind her brother, Ed Daly, and his wife, Karen Lieberman-Daly, her nephews, Evan Skladany and Colin Daly, and their wives, Rachel Bello and Rachel Daly, niece Kate Daly and her husband, Bill Howe, great-nephew Erik Skladany, and great-niece Cora Daly. She is also remembered by Don Solmon’s daughters, Dona and Roberta.
Marg’s memory will be cherished for her fiery spirit, quick wit, passion for culture, extraordinary cooking, and deep devotion to family.
A funeral mass will be said at St Columbkille’s Church in Brighton on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 10:30 AM. Funeral arrangements are through Lehman Reen & McNamara Funeral Home in Brighton.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Marguerite’s memory to Elder Services of Cape Cod and The Islands.
