Temari Ball Craft Highlights March Meeting of Wakefield Arts and Crafts Society

Members gather to learn traditional Japanese craft and invite new participants to join monthly meetings in Wakefield

Wakefield, MA — On Tuesday, March 3, the Wakefield Arts and Crafts Society held its monthly meeting. Nancy Smethurst and Robin Gorfine led a large group in creating Temari balls. These decorative thread balls date back centuries and were originally made in Japan as toys for children.

Pictured crafting are Fran Przyjemski, Barbara Goddeau, Pat Zingariello, and Patrice Denault. Also pictured with a completed Temari ball is Elaine Grosso.

The group’s next meeting will be held on April 7, 2026, at 10 AM at the Wakefield Lynnfield United Methodist Church, 273 Vernon Street, Wakefield. The Wakefield Arts and Crafts Society welcomes new members with and without crafting experience. More information is available at facebook.com/WakefieldArtsandCraftsSociety or by contacting WakefieldArtsCraftsSociety@gmail.com.

Members participate in creating a new craft each month at no cost. Discounted craft supplies are available at meetings, and members regularly share their crafting knowledge and experience. The organization’s season includes a “Free Guest Day” and field trip in October, a holiday party in December, winter charity projects, and the Annual Exhibit in April. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month from 10 AM to approximately 1:30 PM.
