RMHS Cuts Ribbon on New Hawkes Field House Fitness Center and Training Room

State-of-the-art facility, funded by alumna Claudia Miksen, brings Division I-level equipment to student-athletes

Reading, MA — On February 12, 2026, Reading Memorial High School officially cut the ribbon on its new Fitness Center and Training Room, located in the Hawkes Field House.

The newly renovated rooms, outfitted with top-tier, state-of-the-art fitness and athletic equipment, were made possible by the generous support of alumna Claudia Miksen.

Speakers at the event included Superintendent Dr. Tom Milaschewski, Athletic Director Tom Zaya, Football Coach John Fiore, Health and Wellness Teacher and Volleyball Coach Michelle Hopkinson, and Ms. Claudia Miksen herself, who thanked everyone for their efforts and for the opportunity to give back to the community that gave so much to her and her family.

Nick Sweatt of Matrix Fitness then led everyone on a tour and described the renovation process, specific training areas, equipment, and the custom RMHS colors and branding in each room.

“This is equipment that we have at Division I schools across the country… This is at Harvard. This is at BC. This is at BU. These are the big players. UMaine… UNH. So you’re getting the top-of-the-line equipment.”
