Reading 12-Year-Old Advances to National Biology Competition and State Science Fair

Austin Prep School 6th Grader, Sai Pochampally, Excels on National Biology Bee Exam, Passes College-Level CLEP Test, and Qualifies for Regional Science Fair

Reading, MA — Sai Pochampally, a 12-year-old Reading resident and sixth grader at Austin Preparatory School, has recently achieved several notable milestones in biology and science. Sai scored 68 out of 70 on the National Qualifying Exam for the National Biology Bee, earning advancement to the national competition. The high score places him among the top-performing students eligible to compete at the national level.

In addition, Sai passed the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) Biology exam with a score of 57. The passing score is 50. The CLEP Biology exam is typically taken by high school or college students seeking academic credit, making this accomplishment especially significant for a sixth grader. Sai’s project paperwork has also been accepted for the Massachusetts Middle School Science & Engineering Fair (Regions 1–6), where he will compete at the regional level.

Outside of academics, Sai recently earned certification in CPR and AED through the American Red Cross, reflecting his growing interest in health sciences and community preparedness.

Sai and his family expressed gratitude for the encouragement and support he has received from Austin Preparatory School and the broader Reading community.
