October 10, 1938 – January 23, 2026

Richard “Dick” W. Riley of Reading and Wellfleet passed away on January 23, 2026, at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading. He was 87 years of age.
Dick was born in Medford, Massachusetts, on October 10, 1938, the son of the late Walter and Ruth (Stone) Riley. Dick worked as an Engineer at Draper Lab for 53 years. He also was a professor at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston for many years. His family was first and foremost in his life, and he enjoyed attending all his grandsons’ sporting events. Dick enjoyed spending his summers at his home in his beloved Wellfleet.
Dick was the beloved husband of Marilyn P. (Davenport) Riley. Devoted father of James R. Riley and his wife Deborah of East Sandwich, and Janine M. Beaudoin and her husband Daniel of Reading. Loving grandfather of Nick, Dan, Tim, David, Daniel, and Erica, and loving great-grandfather of 4 boys. He was the cherished brother of the late Ruth McKinnon and Robert Riley.
Dick’s funeral will be held from the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 9:00am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Athanasius Church 300 Haverhill St. Reading at 10:00am. Burial will follow at Wood End Cemetery in Reading. Funeral Home visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 3pm-7pm.
