Troop 702 & Pack 702 Charter with Reading Rifle and Revolver Club

Reading, MA — Scout Troop 702 and Pack 702 are pleased to announce that, after an exhaustive search, they have chartered with the Reading Rifle and Revolver Club. The decision was made based on the tremendous opportunities the club provides, as well as alignment with the club’s mission and values, which are focused on dedication to the outdoors and conservancy, and on youth leadership development.

The Club has already provided extensive support to the Scouts, including repurposing a safe, protected acre of land on their property for the Scouts to call their own. “Scoutville,” as they are calling it, will be their new home, with water and electricity and room for the Scouts to camp and meet in the outdoors.

In addition to continuing community service activities all over Reading, the Scouts will perform conservation activities on the Club’s property. These efforts kicked off with the installation of bat boxes, which will benefit the surrounding residences, athletic fields, and even the

new Reading Center for Active Living (ReCAL). Through joint projects with the Club, both organizations will be able to demonstrate their support of mixed-use green space conservancy, a shrinking commodity in Reading.

The Troop and Pack will continue to affiliate with the Old South United Methodist Church, maintaining a
treasured relationship that extends back over a century since the Troop’s founding in 1915. But after direction from the Methodist national organization to divest Scout Troops, it was necessary to seek a new chartering organization. Scouting in Reading is strong, and we are growing. Troop 702 and Pack 702 are excited to embark on this new chapter with Reading Rifle & Revolver Club and are looking forward to the next 100 years!
