Neighbors of all ages are invited to give back through hands-on service projects on Saturday, January 18, starting at 9:00 am at First Congregational Church of Reading
Reading, MA — Eager to start the new year in the best way? Come to the MLK Day of Service and join neighbors in helping make our community, small and large, a better place for all. There will be six on-site projects, from preparing meals for Lazarus House to sewing cloth bags for donations, to decorating bookmarks. For those who want a more physical opportunity, we have two off-site projects involving sorting and moving donations. We also have one collection: Toiletries, Socks, and Underwear for children in foster care. For this collection, you can shop at a local store or order from a sampling on our Amazon Wish List.
Volunteers should plan to start at FCCR at 9:00am for a brief gathering (plus coffee and snacks). Volunteers can then disperse to their chosen activities, either at FCCR or offsite. Sign up for any activities you are interested in doing. Registration helps us plan for supplies, and some projects have limits to the number of volunteers.
Here is the full list of projects:
- Knit or Crochet Hats to help unhoused people stay warm.
- Prepare and pack meals for Lazarus House in Lawrence.
- Make Fleece Blankets for Project Linus.
- Sew canvas bags to hold future donations.
- Decorate bookmarks for the Reading Public Library.
- Create thank-you cards for Reading Food Pantry Donors.
- Donate toiletries, socks, and underwear for children and teens in DCF care.
- Help organize storage for Solstice House at Riverbend.
- Sort and organize at the Reading Food Pantry.
