The Women’s League of Reading brought the community together for an afternoon of craft brews, pizza, and live music by “Almost Ready” at the Lord Hobo Brewing Company in Woburn with their annual BrewFest fundraiser on November 2. Guests gathered not only to enjoy a lively social gathering but to support a meaningful cause: the Reading Food Pantry.
The Women’s League of Reading has a 75-year commitment to supporting local charities. This year’s BrewFest showcased their dedication to blending social connection with meaningful giving. The Women’s League raised $6,047 through the event, a new record for BrewFest.
Organizers described the event as both a celebration of community and a critical effort to support families facing food insecurity. “Our objective was to bring the community together for a day of autumnal brewery festivities, football, and even some competitive stein-holding while raising much-needed funds for our neighbors in need,” said Alli Demers, President of the Women’s League. “We are thrilled by the generosity of our sponsors, raffle donors, and attendees for helping us surpass our fundraising goal.”
The success was truly a community effort with several local businesses sponsoring the event. Platinum Sponsors were Venetian Moon and Stoneham Ford; Gold Sponsors were Cain Oil, Inc., DB Lawncare and Landscape, and John’s Landscape Service; and Silver Sponsors were Harris Plumbing and Northeast Illuminators.
The Reading Food Pantry relies on donations and community support to serve families and individuals facing hunger. The funds raised through BrewFest will directly assist the pantry in continuing its mission to provide essential food and resources to the community. With increasing demand for assistance in recent weeks, contributions like this one make a meaningful difference, allowing the pantry to maintain a consistent supply of groceries and other essentials.
Demers shared that she hopes the success of this year’s Brewfest will inspire more community members to get involved in future events and contribute to causes in the community.
“The end of the year is such a special time for reflection on what we’re grateful for,” Demers said. “I hope that the spirit of the holidays fuels everyone to spread generosity and volunteerism in our Reading community. Get a head start on your New Year’s Resolutions and get involved in what energizes you today!”
In December, the League will coordinate the Reading Holiday Homes. To learn more about that event and others, visit the Women’s League website at www.wlreading.org.
